Anyone who has every visited Zion National Park has marveled at the The Watchman – maybe braved Angels Landing or has gotten their feet, legs (and lets be honest people) body wet on the Narrows Hike (in my top 3 hikes of all time btw). But many people are unaware just 30 minutes north of the main entrance is another part of Zion National Park known as Kolob Canyon.
I arrived to the Kolob Canyon Visitor Center on a Saturday morning to check things out for myself. Because of some road damage due to rock slides only one main hike was open. So making the best out of it I choose the Taylor Creek hike for my morning adventure.
What an incredible journey this turned out to be. To get to the Double Arch Alcove and hidden waterfall you will cross Taylor Creek roughly 61 times (give or take a couple crossings). A walking stick would benefit you as you step on slippery rocks or fallen logs on your many trips over the creek itself.
Once you reach the end take some time to take it all in. Enjoy the colors of the rock that make up the alcove and listen to the waterfall as you enjoy a some food and water. I recommend some light snacks – Kind energy bar, nuts, apple. Some food to get your energy up for the hike back.
The distance is 5 miles round trip and would take the average hiker 3-4 hours depending on how often you stop to take pictures and take it all in. I give this hike 5 out of 5 hiking boots!!!
Check out AllTrails for this hike and many others you might enjoy that are in your area.
