There is something really calming and beautiful about this trail to me. Maybe its the fact that during the summer I pretty much get the whole place to myself. Maybe its all the Cylindropuntia bigelovii (teddy bear cholla) you stumble upon (not literally hopefully) or the Fouquieria splendens (Ocotillo) which make perfect lookout towers for the areas local humming birds. There are a few different detours you can make along the way – you can stay lower in the dry shady canyon washes or you can hike up into the mountain. The entire hike is 2.5 miles – so if you are walking give yourself about an 1hr 30min to complete the trail. Definitely bring water on this one. If you leave the washes there isn’t much to keep you shaded from the intense heat we get in the middle of the day/early evening.
As long as I live in this area I will try to do this hike at least 3 times a month. Whenever I am feeling down I go here to remind myself I can get through anything. I hope if you explore this hike you feel the same way 🙂
